David Payne is a 30+-year veteran of the music industry as well as a 25+-year veteran of musical instrument design, manufacture and service. He is well respected, both, as a true professional recording/performing artist and a reliable, efficient, technician/consultant and innovative designer/builder in dual careers that are intertwined throughout David and his artistic existence.

David has performed on stage and/or in the studio with many artists, including… Hal Blaine, Lee Oskar, Cash McCall, The Platters, Zora Young, Doyle Bramhall II, Fat James, King Bee’s of the Bayou, Paul Taylor, Mic Gillette, Gary Pihl, Stoneground, Joules Graves, Troy Luccketta, to name a few.

            Known as “David Payne (That cool bass player/producer guy)”, “Guitar Doctor USA” and “Payne Formula Designs”, David owns his own businesses of performing and recording with musical artists, artist development, mentoring, repairing stringed instruments, designing / producing musical instruments, parts and repair tools, toys, miniature stringed instruments, and providing clinics and education in the service and maintenance of stringed instruments. David has been featured in several publications including; ‘Popular Woodworking’ (April/May 86’), ‘The Miniature Collector’ (Summer 87’) magazines, and Western Washington University ‘The Klipsun’ (March 06’).

David is also an internationally certified quality auditor and design manufacturing consultant, specializing in ISO 9001 Standards. Three decades of experience has earned him a reputation as a trusted performing/recording artist, guitar/bass technician, designer, builder, repairman and consultant.

            The Guitar Doctor’s practice is not limited to guitars and basses. Over the years he has serviced many types of stringed instruments including banjos, mandolins, bouzoukis, zithers, violins, cellos, upright (double) basses, ukuleles, as well as, many antique instruments.
